New variant of scheme offers additional protection of RM20,000 for accidents abroad
MUSLIMS in Selangor can now enjoy more comprehensive insurance coverage with the launch of the state’s General Insurance Scheme (Insan) Takaful by Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor).
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said some three million people in the state were expected to benefit from the new scheme.
He said the Selangor administration was the only one that took the initiative to offer protection through the scheme under MBI Selangor.
“The state administration is committed to supporting MBI Selangor’s efforts in providing social programmes to safeguard the welfare of its 7.2 million citizens.
“This covers various aspects of sustainability including economic, social and governance in line with MBI Selangor’s involvement in fighting for sustainability in Selangor,” he said in his speech during the launch held at Bangi Convention Centre.
This takaful version of Insan 2.0 is a continuation of the conventional Insan scheme that has protected 5.2 million Selangor citizens since it was launched last year.
Amirudin said the insurance scheme showed Selangor’s commitment to protecting its citizens.
“This is reflected through MBI Selangor’s membership in The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) or the United Nations Global Compact Network (UN) of Malaysia and Brunei, consisting of 182 participants so far.
“Insan was first introduced by Selangor government in 2022.
“It is a symbol of the state government’s concern for the people of Selangor to create a comprehensive programme to ensure they are protected in the event of injury and disability or death because of accidents,” said Amirudin.
A new addition to the conventional scheme is that it now allows a RM1,000 claim for funeral purposes for policyholders.
“As of today, more than five million Selangor citizens who live, work and were born in the state have received their respective insurance certificates, and we are aiming for the remaining less than a million applicants to participate in registering for the scheme,” he added.
“As for the Insan Takaful scheme, it emphasises syariah-compliant elements to ensure that all levels of society do not hesitate to register for this insurance scheme,” he said.
MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek said Insan Takaful was improved in terms of additional RM20,000 protection for accidents abroad.
She said policyholders were also eligible to claim RM50 per day for ward admission in either government or private hospitals because of accidents.
“Selangor Muslims who have previously been registered and covered by a conventional policy will be automatically covered by a takaful policy after the end of the coverage period,” she said.
To check eligibility and for new registration, download the Wavpay eWallet application.
The certificate holder will receive a takaful certificate.
The Insan Takaful scheme opened for registration on Aug 4.
