Selangor government has allocated RM500,000 to repair roofs of flats in Taman Ampang Hilir, which were damaged in a thunderstorm last week.
State infrastructure development committee chairman Izham Hashim said the repair works were going smoothly and expected to be completed in several weeks.
“The state, through the Welfare Department (JKM) and National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), is assisting by providing temporary shelter to affected residents.
“I hope the residents can be patient while the works are being carried out,” said Izham, who is also Pandan Indah assemblyman.
He was speaking to the media during his visit to the flats with Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Dr Ani Ahmad.
Zone 14 councillor Roasiah Ramli said the repairs were scheduled to be completed in eight weeks but this would depend on weather conditions.
“If there is no rain, the roof repairs can be completed sooner. Heavy rain, however, could extend the time taken.
“The repair works include checking and repairing ceilings and wiring at the units,” she said when contacted by StarMetro.
According to MPAJ, 18 units at the scheme in Jalan Hilir 4 were damaged during the thunderstorm on Aug 27.
Eight families, comprising 29 people, were moved by JKM to a temporary shelter at Dewan Persatuan Penduduk Flat Ampang Hilir following the incident.
Currently, six families are still housed at the shelter and under the care of JKM.
“MPAJ provided three tents and also chairs.
“Six MPAJ personnel were also involved in the storm clean-up,” said Roasiah.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said that following the thunderstorm, the road leading to the housing area was blocked briefly.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
