MBSJ issues 51 notices to SS15 premises for illegal modifications

SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has issued 51 building notification notices over a three-month period to several commercial premises along Jalan SS15/4, Subang Jaya, for illegally building drain covers and related permanent structures.

“The notices are part of an ongoing joint enforcement operation to crack down on illegally built structures and drain covers along back lanes, roadsides and drains in areas under MBSJ’s purview,” MBSJ’s Corporate And Strategic Management Department said in a statement on Friday (Sept 8).

“The premises owners had violated Section 70 (13) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) by building structures or obstructions in public places without permission.

“The joint operation is one of the efforts to address the problem of clogged drains, foul odour and breeding of Aedes mosquitoes,” the statement read.

The council said drain covers and related permanent structures are not allowed as they pose a challenge for contractors to clean the drains.

In a joint operation on Tuesday (Sept 5), the area was inspected again by personnel from MBSJ's Building, Enforcement, Licensing, Engineering and Environmental Management departments, as well as external agencies such as KDEB Waste Management, Air Selangor, the National Water Services Commission, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and the SS17 Subang Jaya police station

The 51 notices were issued between May 31 and early September.

The statement added that close cooperation between MBSJ and the community was important to maintain a clean and orderly environment.

MBSJ also held similar joint operations in commercial areas such as Bandar Puteri Puchong and Bandar Puchong Jaya in Puchong.
