Great vibes, good food and cocktails make this outlet in Petaling Jaya a great place to chill. Musical magic happens twice a week here with a Sunday afternoon session from 3pm to 7pm. It’s a great time to chill to the sounds of Sharin going solo with his acoustic jam. On Wednesday evenings, Victor sets the tone from 6pm onwards. It’s all here from the Delta blues of the 1950s right up to harmonica-driven Chicago blues and, of course, the music that it inspired – rock ’n’ roll. Tomorrow night, Amanda Imani is in the house for a night of alternative pop. On Sunday, Helloluqman & The 3005 Cru explore a short history of boy bands and girl groups. Next Tuesday, jazz fans, especially of the Nanyang variety, are in for a treat when the Shang Sisters take the stage. On Sept 16, Ida Mariana brings a touch of Malaysiana as she presents a night of kebaya jazz. Songstress Atilia Haron will be making a special appearance at Jao Tim on Sept 23 for an evening of jazz, R&B and pop. Cover charges apply.

Tonight, Zuura brings bedroom pop to the Merdekarya stage at the Live Bar. Tomorrow night, it’s going to be a double header with a twist as rockers Demondolls and Priyawat get into the thick of things. Next Wednesday, head honcho Brian Gomez brings folk rock to the stage, while on Thursday night, it’s Armand Tanzarian and his post-rock stylings. On Malaysia Day, Merdekarya plays host to “The Malaysia Day Show” featuring Lab The Rat, Sindrom Anak Kedua, Panda Head Curry and Ayop (or Azmyl Yunor and Orkes Padu, as their full monicker is). It’s a special fundraiser for Pergerakan Tenaga Akademik Malaysia (Gerak) and tickets are priced at RM30 at the door. Tomorrow is the last day for early bird tickets of RM25. On other nights, there’s no cover charge but a minimum tip of RM10 for musicians is expected.
