NIPPON Paint (M) Sdn Bhd has emerged as a standout winner, securing the coveted Engineer Excellence Award 2023 for its innovative paint solution, that was jointly developed with PETRONAS this year.

Its protective coatings division assistant general manager Liew Teak Youn accepted the accolade on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of Malaysia’s second edition of the Engineering Exhibition and Conference (Engineer), and the Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation Expo (Marvex) 2023, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Liew also received a certificate, acknowledging the company’s product achievement – Nippon Paint 9049 GR – from Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) president Prof Dr Norlida Buniyamin.

“This accolade celebrates our innovative paint solution designed specifically for corrosion protection, tailored to meet the rigorous demands of the refinery and oil and gas industry.

“This marks a significant milestone for us, as it’s the first time we’ve received such a prestigious honour. It’s an achievement that fuels our motivation to continue pushing boundaries and garnering more accolades within our industry,” said Liew.

Among others, there were six award recipients for the Engineer Excellence Award and another six for the Marvex Excellence Award 2023.

Midea Scott and English Electronics Sdn Bhd clinched the prestigious Gold Winner title in the Stand Design Award’s Open Structure category.

Midea Scott’s division manager (MBT/project) Khor Hock Chai received the award from Malaysian Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Association (Macra) president Peter Tan on behalf of the company.

“This marks our second consecutive year participating in this exhibition, and it’s our first win in this prestigious award.”

Khor also highlighted the company’s track record, noting, “For 16 years, we’ve been introducing a wide range of air-conditioners to satisfy our valued customers here in Malaysia.”

“The roots of our products trace back to 1968 in China, attesting to our history of delivering cooling solutions.”

At the opening ceremony of the Engineer and Marvex 2023, C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd president Datuk Vincent Lim – the joint organiser of the trade show, said: “Engineer and Marvex 2023 unite the engineering and air conditioning, mechanical ventilation and refrigeration (ACMV&R) industry across Asean. This alliance binds us in a common pursuit of progress and sustainable practices for the future.”

With more than 160 exhibitors and over 200 participating brands from more than 10 countries, Lim said the event had been expected to attract 10,000 visitors from the region.

“With support of over 30 ministries, agencies and industry associations from local and international spheres, Engineer and Marvex have positioned us as the premier exhibition and business gateway for engineering and ACMV&R in the Asean region.

“We have also expanded to include 40 power talk sessions at the exhibition, and established Malaysia’s largest symposiums and conferences encompassing eight sessions to attract nearly 2,000 participating engineering delegates, spanning over 100 hours of learning.

“These sessions are led by a diverse panel of over 120 local and international speakers over four days.”

Prof Norlida, in her opening remarks, said: “By promoting the role of engineering in shaping a better future, we can inspire individuals and organisations to contribute meaningfully to the challenges our generation is facing.”

Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) experiential and event director Mohammad Isa Abdul Halim, who read out the speech of MyCEB acting chief executive officer Zain Azrai Rashid, said exhibitions like Engineer and Marvex 2023, which are projected to make an impressive RM56mil economic impact, reinforce their vital role in boosting Malaysia’s growth through GDP contributions, job creation and tax revenues.

“This substantial economic value attests to the immense potential of business events in driving Malaysia’s growth.

“By fostering connections and collaborations on an international scale, Engineer and Marvex facilitate the growth of Malaysian enterprises.”

He added, “Engineer and Marvex 2023 are not just events; they are catalysts for growth, innovation and global connectivity. They underscore Malaysia’s potential as a hub for business events and showcase our commitment to fostering collaboration and unity among all stakeholders.”
