DESPITE being the youngest exco member in the current line-up, Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Fahmi Zainol, 32, is eager to do his utmost alongside his more seasoned colleagues.

The first-term assemblyman, who has been appointed the agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development committee chairman, knows he has a challenging task to elevate the state’s standing in the domain.

“We have a few initiatives planned to boost the agricultural industry. I welcome collaboration with non-governmental organisations,” he said in a interview with Buletin Mutiara at his office in Komtar recently.

“I hope to continue the good work of my predecessor Dr Norlela Ariffin in propelling agricultural growth and strengthening Penang’s rice production.

“It is vital to secure youth involvement in agriculture, and I hope more young people will venture into this industry and join our programmes.”

Fahmi said he was taken aback when told to take charge of the portfolio, seen as a formidable responsibility for a political newcomer.

“Of course, I am happy to be appointed to this position.

“This shows the Penang government under the leadership of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has trust in me to fulfil responsibilities.

“Having previously served as Seberang Prai city councillor, I believe my experience will help me in fostering progress in the state.”
