A POWERBOAT race is expected to bring thrills and spills to Kanowit Festival 2023 scheduled from Sept 16 to Oct 1.

The race will take place at the riverfront on Sept 23 and 24.

District officer Jackline August said on the cards for Kanowit Festival were a Rahmah sale and agency exhibition (Sept 20 to 24), and Battle of the Bands (Sept 28).

There will also be community sports as well as strong man and traditional dress competitions on Sept 30.

“The festival starts on Sept 16 with a native song singing competition at the main stage in Fort Emma Square.

“On Sept 17, a fishing competition will be held in Sungai Kanowit,” she said after chairing the final meeting of the festival.

She added that National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong and Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana were expected at the festival’s opening on Sept 23.

Visitors will get to enjoy a traditional food exhibition and futsal competition to be held in conjunction with the opening ceremony.

“The remote control boat event on Oct 1 will close the festival,” said Jackline.

Adding to the festivities, a funfair and trade fair at Fort Emma Square is scheduled to run from Sept 10 to Oct 1. — By ANDY CHUA
