THE Selangor Council of Justices of the Peace extend their heartfelt congratulations to Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for successfully scaling Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
The council’s president Datuk Ng Seing Liong said they were proud of the spirit and responsible attitude shown by Tengku Amir in conquering the 5,895m peak.
Ng said the expedition aimed to raise funds to establish a care centre at the Raja Tun Uda Library, Shah Alam, for children with speech and hearing problems.
“This will be a good example to be followed by all the youth of Selangor,” he said in a statement.
Joining Tengku Amir on the challenging eight-day adventure were his brother-in-law Datuk Aubry Rahim Mennesson, cousins Datuk Syed Haizam Hishamuddin Putra Jamalullail and Tengku Ezrique Ezzuddean Tengku Ardy Esfandiari, and friend Keong Yeen Yeoh.
Upon reaching the summit, the Raja Muda’s insignia flag, the Malaysian flag as well as the Selangor and Perlis flags were held up by the five climbers.
The initiative to set up the centre at Raja Tun Uda Library took root after Syed Haizam realised the high cost involved after his daughter underwent cochlear implant surgery at the age of four.
The proposed speech and hearing centre will offer free hearing tests and subsidise follow-up treatments for those in need.
