SOCIAL and recreational club Selangor Coast Club Klang, which was established in 1906, held its first 5km Merdeka Walk for members, families and guests.

The event, held in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day, in Klang kicked off at 7.30am and ended at 9.30am.

Also present were Bandar Baru Klang police station head Insp Mohd Amirul Rosli and North Klang IPD logistics head ASP Mohd Nizam Sulaiman.

Dr S. Subramaniam, who was emcee for the event, said it was an initiative to encourage members to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Club president Goh Keng Cheng in his speech, “We wanted to celebrate togetherness, wellness and keep to the Malaysia Madani theme.”

He expressed hope that the walk would become a yearly affair.

“We will take heed of the OCPD’s advice for us to collaborate with the police to organise a crime awareness and prevention programme for youths between 14 and 21 years on illegal activities such as drugs and gambling,” added Goh.
