CAR-Free Day is an international annual event participated every September that promotes sustainable transportation.

The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has encouraged locals and people from neighbouring districts to join the event at Klang’s Jalan Stesen, on Sept 24.

MPK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said the council anticipates participation of locals and even residents from Shah Alam, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya.

“International Car Free Day is celebrated on Sept 22 but we are holding our event this Sunday at 7am to allow more families to enjoy the weekend.

“Our venue opposite the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery is a stone's throw away from the Klang Komuter station that allows people to go car free,” she said.

She added that the event is not just about reduced cars on the road and cleaner air.

“Our aim is to bring families together, create happiness and strong bonds. We want wives to forget the loads of laundry, husbands out of the traffic snarls on daily work and just focus on what matters, the family and have a great weekend,” she said.

Norfiza added that most towns celebrate car free day in different ways which benefit the community where it creates a greener environment.

“We dramatically experienced less cars and fresh air during the pandemic with the movement control order. It would be good to bring about and maintain such benefits,” she said.

MPK’s Car Free Day will see several retail stalls, food trucks for breakfast, aerobic session, 2.3km fun walk around the heritage are, wefie competition and lucky draws.
