PENANG’S tourism industry takes another leap forward with the Granite Luxury Hotel winning the Luxury Concept Hotel category of the World Luxury Hotel Awards.

Hotel general manager Moh Wei Ken said the voting period had ended and that the hotel would receive the award at the end of next month.

“We were nominated in the competition against other hotels from around the world, and after the voting, we were declared the winners.

“The award presentation will be held in Athens, Greece, on Oct 28,” he told the media at the hotel’s first anniversary celebration.

Moh said it was another milestone in the hotel’s string of achievements.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards, established in 2006, recognises achievements in the luxury hotel industry, offering international recognition as voted by guests, travellers and industry players alike.

More than 300,000 interna-tional travellers vote each year during a four-week period to select the winners.

There were over 100 award categories, more than 850 listed hotel profiles, and over 2,000 nominees in 2022.

At the hotel’s anniversary celebration, about 100 guests gathered around its pool for a “sip and dip” session which also featured a fashion show featuring audiophile products from Bang & Olufsen.

The company also provided speakers for three themed suites in the Granite.

Last year, the swimming pool dubbed “The Mirage” was endorsed by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the Highest Cantilevered Acrylic Bottom Swimming Pool.

“They say that a journey begins with a single step.

“ Ours started last year, and the first step, or rather, the first year, has been an exciting one.

“From winning awards to unveiling Insta-worthy themed suites, the Granite is humbled by the generous support from all of you,” Moh said in his speech.

A lucky draw offering numerous room-stay prizes worth about RM20,000 was also held to enliven the mood.

The hotel located in George Town was built and is managed by M Summit Group.
