ENTHUSIASTIC senior citizens laughed their hearts out for better health at the “Come Laugh With Us” event, which was organised by the Ipoh Family Wellness Club to celebrate Senior Citizens Day.
The club’s president P. Mangaleswary said that 65 participants attended, with some arriving long before the doors to the hall were opened.
“The event was to appreciate senior citizens for all their hard work and contributions to society.
“At the same time, the event was held to empower them with some knowledge, and skills on laughter therapy which has many health benefits,’’ she said.
During the event, Laughter Yoga International’s certified instructor Debbie Rodrigo explained to participants how laughter works to improve health and overall well-being.
She then conducted some laughter exercises which had the participants “laughing off their pains”, and just letting go, and bringing out their “inner child’’.
Present was Perak Women and Community Development Secretariat director Jamilah Zakaria, who also participated in the laughing exercises.
Jamilah said it was important for senior citizens to continue to be active in the community.
She also complimented the oldest participants, Datuk R. Thambipillay, 93, and his wife Datin Thavamani, 89, for their continuous efforts in being involved in community activities.
