THE Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) hopes to emulate the Tzu Chi Dialysis Centre when starting its own centre.

PHEB deputy chairman Senator Dr R. Lingeshwaran said the board visited the centre in Logan Road to understand its setup and operations.

He praised Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia (Penang) commissioner Datuk Khoo Boo Leong and his dedicated team for running the centre with love and compassion.

Lingeshwaran said the warmth he felt when visiting “this inviting and homely setup is akin to a place with five-star hospitality.”

“From the entrance to the dialysis rooms, everything is top notch,” he said.

The centre, which has 96 dialysis beds, is run by volunteers assisted by medical personnel.

Lingeshwaran said the board planned to start a dialysis centre for Hindus in Penang, especially for those from the financially marginalised segment of the community.

He said Khoo offered his advice and support to PHEB in its endeavour.

Khoo said the philosophy at the Tzu Chi dialysis centre was to “respect life”.

“We care for the patients’ body, mind and spirit.

“We do not treat them as mere patients but care for them as a whole human being with gratitude, respect and love,” he said.

Joining them for the visit was PHEB commissioner Kumaran Krishnan who is also Bagan Dalam assemblyman.
