AS MHD Adam Abdullah and Mohd Fuad Md Din received keys to their new units at Pangsapuri Selangorku @ Seri Temenggung in Batu Caves, they could finally heave a sigh of relief.
They were among 29 families who were squatting on land that is now the site of the affordable housing project, and were offered a 900sq ft unit each at a discounted price of RM65,000 as part of an agreement to relocate.
Mhd Adam recalled that the area was still surrounded by rubber and oil palm trees when he settled there in 1986.
“There was no piped water or electricity in our houses back then.
“We had to channel water from a nearby river and use candles and generators at night.
“My neighbours and I are lucky to get Pangsapuri Selangorku units and we are thankful to the state government.”
The 69-year-old, who will be living in his new apartment with his wife and son, said Seri Temenggung was a good location as it had easy access to schools, medical facilities and highways. It is also located close to Kuala Lumpur.
As for Mohd Fuad, he will be living in his new home with his family of seven.
“We look forward to moving in early next year after renovations are completed,” Mohd Fuad said.
Mhd Adam was one of five buyer representatives who received their apartment keys from Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari at the key handover ceremony.
Pangsapuri Selangorku @ Seri Temenggung is a joint venture housing project between Rexpoint Resources Sdn Bhd, an associate company of Melati Ehsan Group, and Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
The 420-unit Pangsapuri Selangorku is the first phase of the joint venture project.
The second phase is Bayu Residensi @ Seri Temenggung, which comprises 1,240 apartment units on a 3.97ha plot.
Pangsapuri Selangorku homes are priced between RM100,000 (750sq ft unit) and RM220,000 (1,000sq ft unit).
Its certificate of compliance and completion was issued early August this year.
The scheme is equipped with amenities such as children’s playground, surau and multipurpose hall. It also has a grocery store for the convenience of residents.
In addition to Pangsapuri Selangorku units, the 29 squatter families involved in the relocation were given ex-gratia payment of RM1,000 per family and RM500 rental subsidy until the project’s vacant possession are delivered.
As for Bayu Residensi, it is being built as a modern project equipped with various amenities.
Units come in four sizes ranging from 550sq ft to 850sq ft.
In his speech at the key handover ceremony, Melati Ehsan group chief operating officer Cheah Jit Peng said: “This project is now at 77% completion stage and is expected to be fully completed by the third quarter of 2024.
“Our company is also upgrading the existing Lebuh Utama Sri Gombak from two lanes to four lanes, in an effort to reduce traffic flow around Seri Temenggung.
“This is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.”
Also at the ceremony were Selangor housing and culture committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah, Selangor deputy secretary (development) and Selangor State Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Johary Anuar, Selayang Municipal Council president Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi, Selangor Housing and Property Board executive director Datuk Dr Juhari Ahmad, PKNS deputy chief executive officer Suhaimi Kasdon and Melati Ehsan chairman Tan Sri Yap Suan Chee.
