THE Penang Pink Ladies are well on their way to hitting their fundraising target of RM100,000.

A "Rockin' The Pink" brunch at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel on Friday (Oct 6) raised a significant sum through ticket sales, silent auctions, raffles and donations.

Proceeds from the event, as well as other ongoing fundraising activities, will be channeled to Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital and Penang Hospice Society.

Both organisations do vital work to aid cancer patients and rely much on public support and contributions.

The 250 guests in attendance certainly did their part.

This was the Pink Ladies' 15th edition but the fourth organised by friends Tiina Luckins, Susie Macmillan and Jennifer Sheppard.

They said raising cancer awareness is a cause close to their heart, as the disease does not discriminate.

"We just want to help people. We find that a big portion of the population still do not go for regular screenings which is an important preventive measure," Macmillan said.

Sheppard continued, "The funds raised would help the beneficiaries' efforts and also go towards tangible things.

"For example, some of last year's proceeds were used to purchase therapy chairs."

While guests tucked into the scrumptious brunch, the Ray Rozells Trio belted out a string of iconic 1950s tunes. There was also a fashion show and awards for the best-dressed attendees and sharing sessions.

Guests, clad in various pink outfits, also had a good time snapping selfies with the event backdrop.

Luckins added, "Everybody knows the Penang Pink Ladies now. We started a good movement and hope it will make a difference for the community."

The final tally of funds will be announced and handed over to the beneficiaries at the end of the year.

Donations and volunteers are still welcomed. Write to them at penangpinkladies@gmail.com
