THE state National Sports Day (HSN) 2023 is set to take place from Oct 27 to 29 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang in Sibu.

Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development deputy minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said many activities had been lined up.

The Layar assemblyman said they aimed to involve 390,000 people of all ages from all parts of Sarawak to take part in sports programmes throughout the three days.

“The purpose of organising the event is to highlight sports with a view to making the country a sports nation.

“In addition, we want to instil sports in our society from the youth level through to the elderly,” he said, adding that being active in sports has benefits.

He said HSN would include activities such as a fun run, esports, tug-of-war competitions, community sports, autoshows and extreme sports.

Gerald said Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will officially launch HSN 2023 at 6am on Oct 28, as well as the fun run.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will launch the national HSN 2023 on Oct 14 at the Palace of Justice grounds in Putrajaya.

The Youth and Sports Ministry said state and district-level events were scheduled from Oct 13 to 15.
