The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) received 876 online public feedback responses that have been given consideration in preparation for its 2024 Budget.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said MBPJ invited the public to share their views online from July 17 to Aug 4 at a town hall session.
He said 133 suggestions from 35 people were received.
“In preparing the 2024 Budget, MBPJ will focus on project continuity and new projects based on current needs.
Focus groups of residents listing the needs in their neighbourhoods.
“Priority will be given to providing basic necessities and quality infrastructure.”
He said MBPJ was keen to embark on programmes that helped stimulate the local economy for the benefit of hawkers and low-income groups.
“There will be transformation programmes for low-income communities living in high-density areas. This is to assist them socially, economically and through the sluggish economy.”
He said the city council aimed to strengthen digital services in the city, adding that MBPJ was looking at reaching 100% in its digital services offering.
The city council, he said was aiming to spend prudently and focus on providing services towards needs of a developing city that was smart, sustainable and resilient.
Among MBPJ’s five key areas are environment and health.
In this segment, MBPJ wants the green areas to be protected, reduce pollution and reduce mosquito-breeding grounds.
The city council will continue focusing on creating a safe, barrier-free city through the maintenance of facilities, services and infrastructure.
He said MBPJ planned to manage expenditure and revenue through limited land use without burdening residents.
He also said MBPJ was looking at developing the city’s social landscape based on the Malaysia Madani concept.
