FOR more than a decade, the Penang Pink Ladies brunch has been raising funds to help those living with cancer.

The latest 15th edition in aid of Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital and Penang Hospice Society drew some 250 guests.

Inspired by the theme “Rockin’ the Pink”, they came dressed in every shade of pink imaginable, some with matching accessories and props.

Proceedings kicked off with a 1950s rock ‘n’ roll tribute performed by the Ray Rozells Trio, after which guests lined up for a scrumptious buffet while bottles of bubbly were uncorked.

Some guests had a quick change of outfit and took to the catwalk for a fashion show. They paraded in dresses and gowns from Doublewoot and jewellery from Amee Philips while carrying handbags by Uniqueness Asia.

Others took part in a silent auction offering hotel stays and wellness packages. Raffle tickets also sold well thanks to the attractive prizes up for grabs.

All proceeds went to the Penang Pink Ladies fund for cancer patients, which organisers Tiina Luckins, Susie Macmillan and Jennifer Sheppard said would remain open until the end of the year so more people could donate.

“We hope to hit RM100,000 overall,” Luckins said during the event recently, adding that there would be more fundraising initiatives to come.

These include School Pink Days at several international schools in Penang where students and teachers will hold activities like bake sales to supplement the fund.

Macmillan thanked the many individuals and businesses for volunteering their time, donating or sponsoring prizes.

“We’re passionate about helping the community to battle cancer.

“Many people still don’t go for regular screenings which are important preventive measures,” she continued.

Luckins added, “Penang Pink Ladies hope to continue to make a difference for those living with cancer.”

The brunch also featured a special dance by Vivienne Steur and Guenther Koffling and a sharing session by guest speaker Elizabeth Hor while emcee Moe Nasrul kept things moving along.

The final tally of funds raised from the 2023 campaign will be announced and handed over to beneficiaries at the end of the year.

Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital chief executive officer and deacon Paul Kang said the brunch would significantly aid their mission to provide cancer treatment for all regardless of background.

Corporate sponsorships and cash donations are still welcome. If you wish to contribute, volunteer or involve your organisation or school with its activities, write to the team at penangpinkladies@gmail.com.
