GOLF fans who have a liking for football are in for a rare and delightful treat at Maybank Championship, with a visit by England and Manchester United legend Bryan Robson.

A special meet-and-greet session has been lined up for fans with the former star, affectionately known as Captain Marvel.

The 66-year-old, who enjoyed a glittering career as a midfielder, is set to make an appearance on Saturday, 9.30am to 10.30am, at Maybank Village, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, venue for the LPGA tournament running from Thursday through Sunday.

Among Manchester United’s most revered captains, Robson led the Premier League team to some of its greatest achievements.

With the club, for which he played from 1981 to 1994, he made 345 appearances, scored 74 goals, picked up several trophies and was known as a well rounded box-to-box midfielder who gave it his all.

In his time at Old Trafford, Robson won the Premier League twice, in 1993 and 1994, as well as the FA Cup in 1983, 1985 and 1990. But that wasn’t all.

He also won the League Cup with the Red Devils in 1992, the FA Charity Shield in 1983 and 1993, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1991.

Robson made his name at West Bromwich Albion, where he played from 1975 to 1981 and made 198 appearances, scoring 40 goals.

After Manchester United, he moved to Middlesbrough, where he played from 1994 to 1997, having featured in only 25 matches and scoring one goal.

Throughout his career, he played 568 games and scored 115. Now a global ambassador for Manchester United, Robson was capped 90 times by England, for whom he played between 1980 and 1991, and scored 26 times.

In his heydays, Robson was known not only for his good goal-scoring record but also for his movement on and off the ball, his timing and being fast and competitive with high levels of energy.

His passing of the ball was well-noted, just as he was a good header of the ball.
