Mayor says new system will involve 3,800 bays in PJS7, PJS9, PJS11 and SS13

SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) will implement paid parking in industrial areas under its purview from Dec 1.

“For the first phase, it will be enforced in four industrial areas, covering 3,800 parking bays,” said Subang Jaya mayor Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.

The industrial areas are PJS7 (397 bays), PJS9 (164), PJS11 (2,339) and SS13 (900) and paid parking will apply to cars and small lorries.

The fee is 50sen per hour, similar to the street parking rate.

Payment can only be done using apps or ewallets such as Smart Selangor, Flexi Parking, Touch ‘n Go and Setel.

The mayor said a paid parking system had not been implemented in industrial areas prior to this, with charges levied only on specific parking bays.

“With parking charges imposed, traffic flow and parking management in these industrial areas will be better.

“This will also allow better street cleaning works and address the problem of abandoned vehicles.

“The parking revenue collected will go towards road maintenance,” he said after chairing the city council’s full board meeting.

Mohd Fauzi also said MBSJ had made preparations in anticipation of the northeast monsoon until February next year.

“We are ensuring that drains are well maintained, especially in 25 flood-prone areas identified by the authorities.

“We are also implementing seven flood mitigation projects.”

He highlighted that four projects had been completed while three more, costing RM8.35mil, were ongoing.

“The operations room will operate round the clock starting Nov 20 or earlier, depending on the weather,” he said.

MBSJ’s Skuad Pantas (emergency response team), comprising 62 members and three officers, is on standby mode to carry out disaster relief operations when needed, he added.

“MBSJ has installed 10 water level detection stations in flood-prone areas that will issue early warnings to the operations room,” said Mohd Fauzi, noting that the alerts would be conveyed to relevant agencies and community groups.

“The warning on water levels will also be announced to stakeholders and residents on MBSJ’s social media platforms.”

He said MBSJ had updated its disaster relief operations plan, which would be used by all relevant agencies in areas under the city council’s purview.

Mohd Fauzi said 60 community and multipurpose halls had been designated as temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

Three multipurpose halls will serve as a forward base to house equipment needed by PPS, such as cubicle tents, blankets and pillows.

“Other assets such as schools, mosques and surau have also been identified as temporary transfer centres for 25 flood-prone areas.”

On another matter, Mohd Fauzi said MBSJ would be opening licence renewal counters for traders running businesses at morning, night and wet markets as well as food courts under its purview.

Only licence holders are allowed to renew their licences; representatives are not permitted, to prevent subletting issues.

The counters will be open from Nov 1 to 7, between 9am and 4pm, at Dewan Serbaguna MBSJ USJ7 for traders from Subang Jaya and Kinrara.

Counters will serve traders from Puchong and Putra Heights from Nov 8 to 15.

Traders from Serdang and Seri Kembangan can renew their licences at Stadium MBSJ Serdang Jaya from Nov 20 to 28.

Only non-cash payment modes will be accepted.
