ABOUT 70 households in Kuala Lumpur’s Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency are in the hardcore poor category as they earn less than RM1,169 a month.

Its MP Zahir Hassan said this figure was obtained after an update in the eKasih database in July.

“The latest number is a decrease from the previous data, where 124 households were deemed as hardcore poor,” he said after handing out aid from the Federal Territories Department (JWP) at the Gombak community centre in Taman Melati, Gombak.

Representatives from about 300 households in the Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa and Titiwangsa parliamentary constituencies received food baskets and cash aid.

Also present was JWP director-general Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim.

JWP data showed there were some 1,000 hardcore poor households across 11 parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur.

The department held a programme in each constituency during which household representatives were interviewed and asked to update their details on eKasih.

Among the agencies involved were Welfare Department, Fede-ral Territories Islamic Religious Council and the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit.
