MORE than 500 residents engaged in a range of fun and healthy activities during Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) Mesra Rakyat community programme at Padang Seksyen 7, Kota Damansara.
Organised to build neighbourhood bonds and promote health, the programme showcased various sporting activities and products offered through exhibition booths.
Activities included tug-of-war, futsal and netball tournaments, lucky draw, colouring contests and sports events for children as well as health check-ups.
Long-time resident Aminah Nabilah, 38, said this programme had given the local community valuable information about the services and resources available to them.
“My children are truly enjoying their time here and it’s wonderful to witness this happening in our community.
“The collaboration between community leaders and residents has nurtured a strong sense of togetherness,” she said.
Another participant, Erica Thomas, 17, highlighted how it enabled her to form new friendships and showcase her athletic abilities.
“I look forward to more such events in the future to foster new friendships and promote healthy competition among us,” said Erica.
This event aimed to bolster MBPJ’s image under the Petaling Jaya Smart, Sustainable and Resilient 2030 Plan (PJSSR2030).
Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim emphasised on the importance of community engagement and cooperation in his speech.
He also urged the community to prioritise their health by doing essential exercises and participating in events that promote well-being.
He also spoke on the urgent need to upgrade the field.
“I hope it’s not too late for us, as representatives of the council, to discuss next year’s project for upgrading this field, with a primary focus on the community that uses it.
“I implore the council members to support this project as we cannot afford to delay in serving this community that uses the field daily,” he said.
Also attending the programme were MBPJ deputy secretary (management) Mohd Fauzi Maarop, MBPJ councillors Mohd Ikhsan Mohamad Din and Tang Fuie Koh as well as Sehati Squad Club chairman Datuk Halimaton Saadiah Bohan.
