THE demand-responsive transit (DRT) service in Selangor will be introduced in Puchong, Bandar Utama, Ampang and Subang Jaya, on Nov 20.
Selangor state investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said users would be charged RM2 for each trip during the six-month trial.
“We are starting the service in densely populated areas which have narrow roads.
“We are targeting to expand the service to eight additional areas next year,” he said during the state assembly sitting in Shah Alam.
He was answering a question from Rajiv Rishyakaran (PH-Bukit Gasing) on the DRT, which is a ride-sharing scheme using vans and small buses.
It is part of the RM25mil Selangor Mobiliti initiative to improve the transport ecosystem, as announced in the state’s 2023 budget.
Separately, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Sijangkang) asked Ng if studies had been done on Bas Selangor ridership in areas under Kuala Langat Municipal Council, as most of the time, there were no passengers.
Ng acknowledged that demand at those locations was low and studies were being conducted on routes to optimise funds spent under the Selangor Mobiliti initiative.
“In the future, these Bas Selangor routes might be replaced with DRT,” he elaborated.
Dr Afif Bahardin (PN-Taman Medan) asked whether his constituency would benefit from DRT.
Ng said demand for Bas Selangor and its services was good in Taman Medan and it would likely be maintained.
“There are quite a number of schoolchildren and people from the B40 group who rely on the service.
“We will continue to conduct studies on whether there is a need for DRT in the area,” he added.
