OVER 1,000 people turned up for a fun mass picnic at a park in Putrajaya.

They formed the “Longest Picnic Line” of 709.5m to enter the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

The event at Anjung Floria in Precinct 14 saw 253 picnic groups enjoying the outdoors between 7am and 7pm.

Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud received a certificate from MBOR representatives at the site at the end of the day.

The record-making event was held in conjunction with the administrative capital’s Hari Rekreasi Putrajaya 2023 that saw 30,000 visitors participating in a range of activities in the city throughout the day.

PPj Corporate Communication Division director Norzita Abdul Razak said Hari Rekreasi Putrajaya, which was being held for the second consecutive year, was part of initiatives to brand Putrajaya as a recreational city.

She said the local authority wanted to encourage city dwellers to have a better work-life balance.

Norzita said Anjung Floria was a perfect picnic venue as the spot was an ideal location to catch the sunset in the city.

Anjung Floria is a beautifully designed park with stone pavements, mini bridges and flowers.

There are also themed components such as Malaysia-China Friendship Park, Fantasy Park, English Garden and Heliconia Garden.

It is a popular spot for jogging and cycling.

There was also a competition to find the best picnic set-up.

Apart from the picnic, there were also activities such as arts and crafts, tree climbing, archery, tug-of-war, sandcastle building, mini flying fox, and a remote-control car show.

Adding to the merriment were water sports like open water swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddle clinics.
