OVER 60 prizes were given out to winners of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair Penang 2023 Buyers’ Lucky Draw.

One of them was Kam Shu Zhang, 19, who won an economy return ticket to travel from Penang to Adelaide in Australia via Kuala Lumpur, sponsored by Malaysia Airlines.

His father, Kam Soo Kean, 50, said his family had been buying tour packages at MATTA Fair Penang but it was their first lucky draw win.

“We bought a tour package to Italy during the fair in Penang and we plan to go next January.

“Perhaps, after our trip to Italy, we can continue our trip to Adelaide,” Soo Kean told Buletin Mutiara.

The other top prizes for visitors to MATTA Fair Penang were one Malaysia Airlines Penang-Kuala Lumpur-Narita business class return ticket and one Qantas Airways economy return ticket from Penang to Australia (Perth, Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane).

During the prize presentation ceremony, MATTA Penang chapter chairman Carolyn Leong said the next edition of the fair was scheduled to be held on April 27 and 28, 2024.

She said MATTA Fair Penang this year attracted about 29,000 visitors and generated RM33mil in total sales.

Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai congratulated MATTA Penang chapter for playing a pivotal role in enhancing the tourism sector, both in the state and Malaysia.

“The Penang government is committed to supporting the association and its activities.

“The synergy between the government and the association has led to excellent outcomes over the years,” he said.

Wong also urged tourism industry players to leverage Penang’s strong manufacturing industry.

“Penang’s twin engines of growth are manufacturing and services.

“Our travel industry can leverage the strength of our manufacturing industry.

“We can attract more business and conference travellers to Penang,” he said.
