THE Festival of Lights illuminated Penang as locals living and working out of town returned home during the long weekend to reunite with loved ones.

The air was filled with excitement as families in colourful attire visited temples in the morning to express gratitude and receive blessings.

Coffeeshops and other eateries were filled to the brim with customers enjoying the festive break, while hotels welcomed domestic tourists.

The usual haunts such as Penang Hill, Penang Bird Park, Esplanade and Armenian Street in the heart of the George Town heritage enclave were also packed with visitors.

Many were seen taking pictures at every corner with their relatives and friends.

In the lead-up to Deepavali, crowds thronged Little India to shop for new clothing and goodies while the malls brought cheer by holding cultural performances and workshops.
