THE first-ever Penang edition of Monopoly has arrived, dedicated to the vibrant community and icons of the state.

The board game with its Malaysian twist enables players to navigate the streets of Penang in a whole new way.

Landmarks in Monopoly Penang range from cultural attractions and local businesses to buildings.

Among them are Penang Bridge, Penang International Airport, Komtar, Fort Cornwallis, Penang Hill, Armenian Street, Clan Jetties, Pulau Aman, Batu Ferringhi, Tropical Fruit Farm, The Granite Luxury Hotel, Courtyard By Marriott Penang, Stonyhurst International School, Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall and Tenby Schools Penang.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, representing state tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, was at the launch of Monopoly Penang at Queensbay Mall.

The event also saw the launch of Top Trumps Penang edition.

Ng told Buletin Mutiara, “Monopoly Penang beautifully captures the essence of this remarkable state.

“The board game promises to create memorable moments for the players. We can celebrate Penang’s unique charm while having fun with our loved ones.”

Ng expressed appreciation to Hasbro and Winning Moves UK, integral partners in bringing this edition to fruition.

Winning Moves UK partnerships manager Jennifer Lau said the game was a celebration of Penang from its landmarks to its culture.

The Granite Luxury Hotel general manager Moh Wei Ken said the hotel was elated to learn that it would appear in Malaysia’s first Monopoly edition dedicated to one city.

“What an honour to be associated with one of the world’s most timeless board games which has delivered so much wholesome family fun.

“It is also wonderful to have our very own card in Top Trumps Penang.

“I am grateful for this recognition and see it as an inspiration for our team to continue raising the bar,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Monopoly appeared at Courtyard by Marriott Penang’s Gin Library, giving hotel guests the opportunity to meet him and snap some photos.

The public can purchase the Penang editions of Monopoly and Top Trumps at selected retail outlets for RM189.90.
