HYPERMARKET chain Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd is working with consumer goods company Procter & Gamble (P&G) to provide relief to flood victims.

For every purchase of P&G products worth RM10 at Mydin premises, five sen will go towards a special fund.

The programme will run until Jan 6 next year and the fund will be used to buy necessities like food and toiletries for flood victims.

Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said they would work with non-governmental organisations and local representatives to identify suitable recipients of the aid.

“We prefer working with non-profit groups, assemblymen and MPs for the area as they know their own community better,” he said.

Ameer said the initiative was held nationwide and was an extension of the Mydin Prihatin programme launched during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This effort provided various types of assistance to the poor and disabled.

“We extended help to everyone regardless of their race and religion,” he said after jointly launching the relief programme at Mydin Hypermarket in Subang Jaya, Selangor with P&G Malaysia and Singapore regional manager Nantha Kumaran Kalimuthu and Mydin executive director Datin Dr Siti Hawa Mohd.

Nantha Kumaran called on the public to support the relief initiative.

“If you are not sure which products are by P&G, reach out to Mydin staff members for help,” he added.

He added that unused balance from the fund would be donated to charities including orphanages.

The company, he said, had worked with Mydin on various corporate social responsibility programmes in the last 10 years.

“We have fostered a good working relationship.

“That gives us the confidence to embark on this latest community-driven initiative together.

“This collaboration with Mydin further emphasises our commitment towards serving the Malaysian community,” added Nantha Kumaran.
