Ipoh international arts festival to kick off on Dec 2

A SERIES of activities will be held during the Ipoh International Arts Festival 2023 next month.

People of Remarkable Talents (PORT) general manager Nur Hanim Mohamed Khairuddin said these activities included art exhibitions, workshops, forums, a fashion show and a concert.

They will take place at several locations like PORT, Ipoh Padang, and Silveritage between Dec 2 and 12.

“We have activities like the ‘Marcapada: The World Today’ visual art exhibition, the ‘Terang’ light mapping exhibition and the ‘Transpacific: An Asian-Canada Literary Journey’ exhibition.

“We also have the Situationship Music Night concert, an Asian short film festival, Marcapada Fashion Night, Orang Asli craft workshop and shadow play puppetry,” Nur Hanim said in a media statement.

About 100 local and foreign artists will be involved.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad is expected to open the festival at Silveritage on Dec 2.

Nur Hanim said the festival would be held for the third time, in collaboration with Balai Seni Negara and with the support of Ipoh City Council, Maju Perak Holdings and Tourism Perak.

“It also involves strategic partners such as Filamen, Kapallorek Artspace, Projek Rabak, Groundzero Art Collective, Patani Artspace from Thailand, Kersan Art Studio (Indonesia), the Italian Council, High Commission of Canada in Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Gamon Society and 42nd Pictures.

“Our aim is to make Ipoh a city with an annual signature festival.

“We want to attract tourists, art enthusiasts, cultural researchers from abroad and locally.

“In line with Ipoh joining Unesco’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN) list recently, we hope the festival can be a part of the local arts and culture ecosystem,” said Nur Hanim.
