Participants of all ages joining the walkathon.

FOR the third year in a row, Serba Wangi Sdn Bhd through its brand ecoBrown’s organised an on-ground ‘Miles with ecoBrown’s’ walkathon aimed at increasing public awareness of diabetes.

It was in line with the company’s objectives to encourage more consumers to adopt a nutritious diet which can help ward off diabetes which is a growing problem in Malaysia.

One nutritious product they can choose is ecoBrown’s Steam Brown Rice which offers several benefits as it is a certified wholegrain rice with a low glycemic index (GI).

The walkathon was held at the Esplanade in Penang, together with Itsu as the main partner.

In addition, two alternative walkathons with a total distance of 4km – virtual and on-ground – were staged as part of the event, which also coincided with November’s designation as National Diabetes Month.

The virtual walks took place from Oct 19 to Nov 19, and participants were able to complete them in any location.

Overall, the number of participants for this walkathon were 2,651, with 1,390 on-ground and 1,261 virtual participants.

Each participant received a goodie bag worth up to RM188.

A total of RM25,000 was also donated to Diabetes Malaysia representative Ruben Mahendran.

There were a number of other fun activities like carnival game booths, mini games and lucky draws while exhibition booths were set up by government agencies to provide informantion.

‘Miles with ecoBrown’s’ was launched by Penang youth, sports and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, together with Serba Wangi Sdn Bhd director Lim Wooi Kheng.
