TACKLING urban poverty will be the key focus for Dr Zaliha Mustafa, as she moves to helm the administration of the federal territories.
The newly appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said this was among several issues to receive her attention.
“I will carry out the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s mission and vision who wishes to see urban poverty eradicated.
“I am confident with the help and teamwork from staff at the Federal Territories Department,” she said on Friday (Dec 15).
She said this to the media before clocking in for the first day at work at Menara Seri Wilayah in Putrajaya.
Dr Zaliha said among issues to be discussed were the development of Labuan as a tourism hub and redevelopment of Kampung Baru.
The management of hawkers and small traders in Kuala Lumpur would also be given attention, she noted.
Dr Zaliha, 59, also Sekijang MP, previously served as the health minister, before being given a new portfolio under the new Cabinet line-up.
She had also served as political secretary to Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail before contesting in the 15th General Election.
