THE city rejuvenation project in Shah Alam is expected to be implemented in the third quarter of next year, said Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas.

The project, which is estimated to cost RM2bil, will start with the area in front of Dato Menteri LRT3 station with PKNS planning to restore some buildings in the area, he told Bernama.

He said the project, which would be carried out around PKNS Square, involved Kompleks PKNS Shah Alam and SACC Mall.

“The development comprises several components including service apartments, hotels and upgrading of shopping centres as well as SACC Walk.

“It will focus on the concept of transit-oriented development (TOD) together with Smart City Concept.

“The project is expected to take a few years and we hope to complete more than 90% by 2028.”

He said the project was an effort to make Shah Alam a net zero carbon city, with buildings upgraded using a centralised chill water system.

“We will also adopt green energy and build a pedestrian walkway linking adjacent buildings to the PKNS office and the Dato Menteri LRT station,” he said after the Shah Alam Trees For Life programme at Taman Tasik Shah Alam.

At the launch of the programme by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and PKNS, 2,440 trees of various species were planted.

Mahmud also presented a RM30,000 contribution to MBSA, which was represented by acting mayor Cheremi Tarman, as a symbol of the corporation’s support for the greening initiative.
