Spreading festive joy to needy communities across nation

Heineken Malaysia Bhd and digital fundraising platform Sokong are collaborating on Heineken Cares 2023 – a community impact initiative aimed at strengthening resilience in the face of increasing social and economic challenges.

Through the programme, six non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and social enterprises have been selected to implement projects in food security, community farming, clean water and renewable electricity.

The six partner organisations are Hopes Malaysia, Hope Place Kuching, Soroptimist Interna-tional Region of Malaysia, Ferris Wheel Organisation, SOLS Energy and Yellow House Kuala Lumpur.

The public are welcomed to contribute to enable the work of these organisations.

For every RM10 donated, Heineken Cares will match it with a further RM40, bringing the total value raised to RM50.

The campaign will stop accepting funds upon reaching the total funding target.

Heineken Malaysia managing director Roland Bala said, “In the midst of the year-end festivities, we want to encourage Malaysians to share the joy by giving back to those in need.

“Through our collaboration with Sokong, Heineken Cares 2023 aims to amplify the work of our partner NGOs and social enterprises to create a more positive impact on communities in need.

“Every contribution, big or small, inspires a better world for those who need it the most.”

The Heineken Cares programme was launched at the height of the pandemic in 2021 with the main goal of supporting vulnerable communities and disaster victims through food aid and urgent care packages.

In 2022, the programme transitioned from short-term food aid to community farming projects supporting longer-term capacity building for local communities.

Over the past two years, the programme has delivered 850,000 meals and care packages for communities across Malaysia.

This year, the funds raised will be channelled to projects such as Ferris Wheel Organisation’s urban farming project to support marginalised communities in Subang Jaya and Hope Place Kuching’s efforts to equip the disabled and the poor with essential food supplies.

Aid will also be given to Yellow House Kuala Lumpur’s community garden project to nourish the underprivileged and homeless in Ampang as well as Hopes Malaysia’s initiative to channel clean water for rural communities in Sabah through a gravity water system.
