Financial institution Public Bank revisits the legacy of the late Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow, the company’s founder and chairman emeritus, a year after his passing.
The commemoration at Menara Public Bank hailed him as a trailblazer who played a pivotal role in shaping the banking industry of Malaysia.
In 1966, he laid the foundation for Public Bank, which has gone on to contribute significantly to nation-building efforts in Malaysia and also impacted communities across the region where Public Bank has established its presence.
During the commemoration, Public Bank managing director and chief executive officer Tan Sri Dr Tay Ah Lek spoke on the impact his late mentor had on the banking industry and the wider community.
“People are inspired by passionate leaders who believe in them,” he said in a statement.
Continuing the philanthropic legacy established by Hong Piow, his youngest daughter Diona Teh Li Shian contributed RM145.2mil to two hospitals and 10 charities.
The contributions include RM143,000,000 to Tung Shin Hospital and RM200,000 each to Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang, Rumah Bakti Ci Hang, Wan Hing Home Care, Pure Life Society, Rumah Victory Elderly Home, Desa Amal Jireh, Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, Pusat Jagaan Al-Fikrah Malaysia, Pusat Jagaan Nur Hasanah, Rumah Titian Kaseh, and Yayasan Sunbeams Home.
Diona said, “My dad touched countless lives.
“I hope that these contributions will create ripples of positivity and kindness, further spreading my dad’s legacy to both the present and future generations.”
In remembrance of Hong Piow’s lifelong dedication to Public Bank and the banking industry, the bank has dedicated two special floors in Menara Public Bank for the Teh Hong Piow Gallery.
The gallery, officiated by Diona, is adorned with memorabilia and collectibles.
They showcase the deep love Hong Piow had for Public Bank, the pride he took in its trajectory growth and the culture of excellence that he fostered.
