KLANG Municipal Council (MPK) president Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan has been appointed as the new mayor of Klang, which will be proclaimed as a city under Majlis Bandar Raya DiRaja Klang (MBRK) next month.
Her appointment was made known in the Selangor State Secretariat Office's official post on social media.
Earlier, on Tuesday (Jan 2) morning, Noraini officially received her letter of appointment and mandate as mayor from Selangor state secretary Datuk Haris Kasim. It was witnessed by deputy state secretary (Development) Datuk Johary Anuar at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Building at Bukit SUK, Section 5, Shah Alam.
Noraini had taken office as MPK president in 2022 for a two-year term.
Klang is scheduled to be proclaimed a royal city on Feb 5.
Noraini was a qualified town planner with a master's degree in regional planning from the North Carolina University in the United States.
Her previous post was as Subang Jaya mayor.
She is credited for her vision of turning Subang Jaya into a city in October 2020. It had been a municipality since 1997.
Noraini is also a Malaysia Institute of Planners corporate member.
She has a lot of experience in managing local councils as she served as Hulu Selangor District Council president in 2017 and Kuala Selangor District Council president from 2011 to early 2017.
She also served as MPK’s Town Planning Department head from 1989 to 2010 and in Petaling Jaya City Council from 2010 to 2011.
