OVER 250 exhibitors will ramp up the festive atmosphere during a three-day Chinese New Year (CNY) carnival to be held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

The carnival is jointly organised by IF Exhibitions Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Chinese Assembly Hall (MCAH).

IF Exhibitions managing director Dicky Lee said the event, scheduled from Jan 26 to 28, aimed to showcase Chinese culture and traditions.

“Unlike previous iFood expos, the CNY carnival this year contains a strong cultural vibe.

“Various elements of Chinese culture such as Chinese brush painting, wushu, Chinese calligraphy, lantern art, and lion dance will be featured at the carnival,” he said during a press conference at MCAH.

He said earlybirds stood a chance to win Madani cash vouchers sponsored by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, which could be utilised during the carnival.

“We will be giving out 1,000 vouchers worth RM20 each to carnival visitors.

“Applications can be done through the Seputeh MP’s office from now until Jan 23.

“These are available on a first come, first serve basis,” said Lee.

Other perks include goodie bags, lucky draws and free meals.

Present at the press conference were Kok, MCAH president Datuk Seri KK Chai, executive secretary Malong, organising secretary Darren Lau and deputy secretary-general Steven Lee, as well as Federal Territories Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) Seputeh sub-zone 3 president Ng Yoot Kuen.

Kok said she hoped the carnival would boost the development of local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“In this Year of the Dragon, I encourage more SMEs to grab such opportunities to make their brands and products known to the public.

“Being a great networking avenue, this carnival can also forge collaborations between different business entities so that Malaysian products can stand strong regionally,” she said.

Chai said the carnival was an “event for everyone” and hoped it would be a memorable occasion for MCAH.

“The carnival is a great platform for businesses of all sizes to promote their products, be they homemade crafts or festive cookies.

“In countries like the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, festive markets are very common.

“I hope this carnival can become the Malaysian version of such markets,” he added.

Alongside the CNY carnival, MPPWP Seputeh will spearhead a “Youth Entrepreneur Carnival’’.

MPPWP Seputeh sub-zone 4 president Alice Lan said 40 to 50 booths outside the main exhibition hall would be allocated to young entrepreneurs.

“We want to encourage more young entrepreneurs to join this event as this could be a first-hand business management experience for them,” she said.

Dicky said 40% of the carnival booths were still available for rent and those interested could contact him at 016-379 9269.
