THREE tanks have been installed at Cecil Street Market and Hawker Centre to enable the stalls there to remain open throughout the water cut period.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng said each water tank could store around 2,700 litres of water.

“I was told several hawker stall owners decided to close throughout the water disruption period,” Wong told Buletin Mutiara when visiting the market in George Town.

“I respect their decision and ask the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) not to take any action against them.”

Wong reminded business owners in the area that they could use the available water tanks to continue operating but they should also store water themselves as a precaution.

He assured market visitors that public toilets in the area would remain open throughout the four days of the water cut.

MBPP councillor Tan Soo Siang, who was also present, urged market-goers to be mindful of their water consumption.

Also present were MBPP councillors Alan Lim Wei Lun and Benji Ang Ming Quan.
