TASIK Pandan Perdana recreational park in Pandan Perdana, Selangor, is getting a major upgrade, to the delight of park users.
Works initiated by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) include repaving the jogging track, construction of a public toilet and two platform decks around the lake.
The project, which started in October last year, is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Regular visitor S. Ganasen, 62, said the upgrading works on the park was timely.
“I have been coming here for more than 30 years and there hasn’t really been any significant work carried out before this.
“It is good that the old facilities are being replaced and redone.”
However, he hoped the significant improvements would not mean an entry fee would be charged for park-goers.
Park user Zarina, 59, was glad to hear that toilets would be built and jogging track repaved.
“The pathway previously was quite uneven and I had even tripped before.
“I hope the lake will also be cleaned and deepened,” she added.
Angler Mohd Ikhwan, 56, suggested small piers be built at strategic locations around the lake for fishing enthusiasts.
“Currently, we have to make our way down to the lake to find a good spot and some of the places are quite steep.
“Having a small pier somewhere shady would be a more enjoyable experience.”
MPAJ Youth and Community Department director Khairilazhar Ismail said RM524,700 had been allocated for the works.
“The project is currently about 50% completed.
“There is a slight delay in the completion date because of the rainy season, but we hope to have it done by the end of March,” he said when contacted.
He said there were plans to have the lake cleaned, but this would depend on budget allocation.
He also gave an assurance that the park area would remain free to enter and open to the public.
Khairilazhar said other improvements to be made included having more seating areas, installing 3D signboards, fixing playground equipment as well as putting in lighting at the park and carpark areas.
Former MPAJ area councillor R. Moganraj hopes visitors will be responsible in keeping the park clean once upgrading works are completed.
