VISITORS to Yong Peng will be able to enjoy a leisurely stroll along a newly completed 150m walkway in the heart of town.
Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon said the first phase of Yong Peng Walk project was completed at a cost of RM500,000.
“The walkway is part of the area’s facelift. It has fancy lighting, tiled walkway, and shops as well as franchise outlets lining it.
“Since 2022, we have been carrying out upgrades along Jalan Yong Peng – the main road that runs through the town – to upgrade the road and instal LED streetlights for better lighting.
“With the addition of Yong Peng Walk along the main road, I hope that the locals and tourists will have a more comfortable place to spend time with their loved ones,” he said.
Ling, who is also Johor health and unity committee chairman, said the state government had agreed to allocate another RM500,000 to start the second phase of construction this month.
“The next phase of the project will include extending the walkway by another 165m and upgrading the landscaping.”
He said the project was scheduled to be completed by April.
He also said that Yong Peng’s population was now close to 100,000 people and tax revenue exceeded RM20mil in 2023, which was the highest amount so far.
He noted that once Yong Peng District Council achieved tax revenue of more than RM20mil for three years in a row, it would be able to upgrade its status to municipal council.
“I threw the council a challenge in 2022 to work towards achieving municipal council status and I hope that they can continue striving for the goal,” he added.
Apart from those projects, Ling said construction works were also ongoing to build a RM500,000 multipurpose hall in Yong Peng.
“The hall will have four badminton courts to provide a place for the community to exercise and hold competitions.
“Who knows, we might even produce the next badminton star from Yong Peng in future,” he added.
