LORONG Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur transforms into a bustling night market every Saturday evening.
This stretch of road closes from 5pm until late so that hundreds of hawkers can move in, set up stalls and welcome customers.
A majority of the stalls sell local delicacies such as traditional Malay kuih-muih, grilled corn, murtabak and keropok lekor.
There are also stalls selling affordably priced clothes, textiles and toys.
Parallel to the road is Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, formerly known as Batu Road, which has been a popular shopping destination among city denizens since a century ago.
Many of the old buildings are still standing.
However, only a few old businesses remain while many others have changed hands or new and younger entrepreneurs have taken over.
Regardless, the area still attracts a crowd, especially on Saturdays.
Several shopping complexes, namely Sogo Kuala Lumpur, Pertama Complex and Maju Junction, are also located in the area.
It is also common to see buskers taking advantage of the weekend crowd to eke out a living.
They can be seen performing at the open area outside of Sogo, where its steps have become a popular place for people to watch buskers perform.
