THE Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH) will continue to work closely with local media to counter “destructive forces” with credibility and resist misinformation with facts, says its chairman Tan Sri Tan Khoon Hai.

“In the face of the Internet’s growing influence, we are dedicated to ensuring the sustainable operation of this cultural stronghold and preserving the essence of diverse cultures for generations to come.

“I believe that traditional media will continue to be important in society and I am optimistic about its lasting impact,” he said in his speech at the PCTH Media Night at a hotel in George Town.

Tan noted that the workload of reporters had increased in the post-pandemic period but thanks to their hard work, PCTH’s message to the public had been effectively conveyed.

Also present were China vice consul-general in Penang Ding Qiao, Thai consul-general in Penang Raschada Jiwalai, Penang Press Employees’ Co-operative Society Ltd chairman Wong Soon Eng, Penang Press Club chairman Tan Hu Chuan and PCTH committee members.
