Cashless payment ease through kiosks in Kulai

Ratepayers in Kulai can now enjoy the convenience of paying local council taxes and compounds via these cashless payment kiosks.

RATEPAYERS in Kulai can now enjoy the convenience of paying their local council taxes and compounds via cashless kiosks.

Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) president Mohd Fahmi Salam said the kiosks also allowed people to pay their bills after office hours.

“Ratepayers can pay their assessment tax, rental and local council compounds at kiosks in three locations – MPKu building, Kulai district office and Econsave Senai.

“It also gives ratepayers an alternative payment channel other than MPKu counters and online platforms,” he said when contacted.

Previously in 2018, the council had offered payment kiosk facility where ratepayers could pay their bills using cash, card or cheque.

“We decided to switch to a cashless payment system as there was demand for such a facility,” he said, adding that ratepayers could also print their bills at the kiosk.

Mohd Fahmi said the kiosks, which were launched on Dec 31 last year, could help disperse the crowd especially during peak periods and reduce waiting time at counters.

Separately, Mohd Fahmi, at the council full board meeting in December, had urged staff and councillors to support the state government’s aspirations and initiatives such as Johor Smart City Blueprint and Johor Sustainable Centre.

“Industrial developments concerning Kulai such as Senai Airport City, Ibrahim Technopolis and Ladang Ayer Manis are set to change the landscape of the district.

“Along with the development of high-impact projects such as Rapid Transit System Link, expansion of Senai International Airport, Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and proposed High Speed Rail project, all civil servants must be equipped and ready to take on the challenges,” he said.

He also noted that MPKu recorded tax revenue of RM160.78mil as of Dec 27, 2023, which was 22.27% more than its target for the year.

The council’s expenditure was about RM124.33mil or 91% of the targeted amount, which included operating expenses of RM87.5mil while the rest was development expenses, he added.
