THERE are only five women councillors in Kajang Municipal Council’s 2024-2025 line-up, down from seven.

When asked about the reduction, its president Nazli Md Taib said the councillors were determined by the political parties and MPKj had no say in the matter.

Of the 23 councillors sworn in, four are fresh faces.

No name had been given to MPKj yet for the one seat which has been allocated to Umno.

“We have yet to receive a name from Umno, they have until the end of the month,” Nazli said at the swearing-in ceremony at MPKj headquarters,

The new line-up included Orang Besar Daerah Hulu Langat Datuk Rosli Othman.

In terms of party breakdown, nine councillors are from DAP, eight from PKR and five from Amanah.

This year’s new faces from DAP are Edwin Tang Wei Yong, 31, and Jack Tan Kah Hoe, 32.

Tang who is also DAP National Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Selangor secretary said he plans to organise more youth activities.

Tan, who is Selangor Dapsy treasurer, said his experience as an engineer would come in handy in resolving local infrastructure issues.

He also plans to engage with senior citizens and encourage them to lead an active lifestyle.

Amanah’s two new councillors are Muhammad Ramadhan Mohd Lotphi, 32, and Rusman Abu Samah, 55.

Muhammad Ramadhan previously served as a councillor in the Sepang Municipal Council for one term, before relocating to Kajang serving as aide to outgoing Zone 18 councillor Nasar Khan Mirbas Khan.

He said his experience in Sepang as well as Kajang would help him settle in quickly, adding that he would look into solving traffic and flooding issues.

Nazli advised councillors to help develop the local economy.
