Kota Kemuning rep urges govt to expedite flood mitigation projects

KOTA Kemuning assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan urges the authorities to hasten flood mitigation projects in the Kota Kemuning constituency, following a major flash flood that hit various parts of Kota Kemuning on Tuesday.

In a statement sent to StarMetro, he also demanded that the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) come out with a detailed report on the floods within 24 hours.

"I urge the state and Federal governments to work together in addressing flash floods in the constituency and expediting the flood mitigation project.

"The residents are waiting for it to be completed but they have voiced to me that the lack of coordination between agencies in addressing flood issues is quite worrying," he said.

According to the statement, the Federal Government had allocated RM100mil for the flood mitigation project.

Preakas added that the installation of the screw pump that was supposed to be completed on Jan 24 had been delayed due to unforeseen soil movement.

"Immediate action had been taken to strengthen the platform before the construction of a TNB station located beside the pump," he said.
