GEORGE TOWN: More than 2,500 devotees thronged the thaneer panthal (refreshment stall) set up by the Sunway Hotel Georgetown and Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya in Jalan Datuk Keramat for the annual Thaipusam chariot procession on Wednesday (Jan 24).
The devotees enjoyed a feast featuring rice, potato peratal, pumpkin, and assorted gravies.
The aim of the stall was to welcome the devotees and, at the same time, celebrate the festival.
Under the vibrant tent, an orderly line formed as eager devotees patiently awaited their turn.
Dressed in traditional attire, the enthusiastic hotel staff joyfully served the guests, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The air was filled with a sense of community as devotees relished the complimentary food, embracing the festive spirit.
Sunway Hotel Georgetown and Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya general manager Prakash Kumaran highlighted the significance of this collaborative event, emphasising the commitment of the Sunway Group to giving back to society.
He expressed pride in the true team effort put forth by the staff, dedicating their time to set up the stall and prepare the food and drinks.
“This initiative aligned seamlessly with the group’s dedication to supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2,” he said Wednesday.
The event further witnessed the active involvement of staff from both hotels, who not only assisted in preparing the delectable offerings but also played a role in acquiring sacred ashes for the well-being of the participants.

Thaipusam falls on Thursday (Jan 25), with the chariot processions being held on Wednesday and Friday (Jan 26).
Over a million people are expected to gather at the three-day Thaipusam celebration, as many will come from near and far to fulfil their vows.
