STM Lottery Sdn Bhd continues its tradition of spreading festive joy by extending a helping hand to over 18,000 needy senior citizens with its 37th Sports Toto Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign.

To mark the start of this initiative, the firm organised a launch last week at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.

It was attended by Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, Sports Toto Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Robin Tan and its chief executive officer Nerine Tan.

Around 3,000 eligible senior citizens, including those from four old folks homes from Kuala Lumpur, attended the ceremony.

Spanning 50 cities and towns nationwide, the six-day donation campaign aimed to benefit a minimum of 18,000 elderly folk.

Each recipient received an ang pow, a mini hamper and mandarin oranges.

“This noble initiative is an integral part of the Helping Hands programme, a corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiative by STM Lottery,” said Nerine in her welcome speech.

“The significance of this campaign goes beyond monetary contributions; it is about lending a helping hand to those who need it most.

“It goes beyond the tangible gifts; it brings smiles, warmth, and a sense of community.

“It reminds us all that in the spirit of Chinese New Year, we are not just a company but a family, sharing the joy and blessings with the less fortunate.”

She thanked Berjaya Times Square for being the venue sponsor for the launch.

She also thanked over 800 employees and Toto agents whose contributions played a pivotal role in the campaign’s success.

Since its initiation in 1988, the charitable campaign has contributed over RM25.6mil, benefiting more than 455,000 old folk in need across the country.

Beyond festive donations, the programme also lent support to national sports development and various social sustainability projects including sports sponsorships, food bank initiatives, and environmental conservation campaigns.
