SMG renews support to help needy

STAR Media Group (SMG) Bhd will continue to support Penang Governor’s Charity Foundation (Yayasan Amal Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negri Pulau Pinang) in its effort to do more for the state, said its group chief executive officer Alex Yeow.

“The Star started in Penang so it is only natural that we continue to support the foundation, which is a good charity model.

“SMG is well known when it comes to bringing people together and I am sure the cohesiveness and partnership with the foundation will only get stronger with time.

“This is the second time that we are donating to the foundation; the first was last year,” he said after handing over a RM27,600 mock cheque to foundation chief executive officer Datuk Seri Rozali Mohamud at The Granite Luxury Hotel in Magazine Road on Wednesday.

Witnessing the handover was Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

Rozali thanked SMG for organising the event and contributing to the foundation.

“The contribution will be used for programmes that can benefit the underprivileged in the state.

“The foundation aims to support those in need through six key areas, namely assistance for the needy, healthcare, education, social initiatives, environmental projects and local economic development,” Rozali said.

The foundation collected RM2.8mil last year and had allocated approximately RM2.75mil to support those in need in Penang, he said.

“The contributions made by corporations such as SMG serve as an excellent illustration of corporate social responsibility that can be emulated,” he said.

Also present were Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai, M Summit Group managing director Datuk Albert Moh, Intel vice-president of manufacturing, Intel Malaysia supply chain and operations and managing director AK Chong, Solarvest project director Chew Chun Wei, Roncelli Plastics managing director Raymond See Teong Hooi and Success Transformer Corporation Bhd group chief operating officer Datuk Tan Wei Neng.

Also present were SMG client brand marketing general manager Simone Liong See Mun, GSH Precision Technology Group director J Philip Vincent and PKT Logistics Group chief operating officer Dr Jason Cheah.
