SOME 3,000 cyclists are expected to participate in the inaugural RHB Century Ride on May 19.
The event, to take place on the West Coast Expressway (WCE), will feature three categories ―160km, 90km and 28km.
The route will start and end at the Kampung Lekir Toll Plaza in Perak.
Cash prizes await the top three finishers in the 160km and 90km categories.
RHB Banking Group managing director and chief executive officer Mohd Rashid Mohamad said the event was being held in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024.
He said it also reflected RHB’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians and supporting local trade.
“The Century Ride is not only a sporting event but also a way to bring people of all age groups together.
“The three categories offered are meant to cater to participants of varying fitness levels, from amateurs to professional cyclists.
“To enliven the experience, there will also be plenty of family-friendly activities and entertainment lined up on the day,” he said during the event’s launch at the RHB Centre in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
WCE Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Lyndon Alfred Felix hoped the event would promote the highway and local businesses along the route.
He said the organiser also worked closely with the authorities to ensure participants’ safety during the event.
“This is a significant milestone and is hoped to drive socioeconomic developments along the west coast,” he added.
The WCE, with 10 rest areas, is a 233km expressway linking Banting in Selangor to Taiping, Perak.
Until Feb 7, RHB debit and credit cardholders will enjoy a 30% discount when they register for the event.
They may also enjoy other discounts and complimentary gifts when shopping at booths that will be set up on the day.
Registration closes on March 17. For details, visit www.wcecenturyride.com
