THE Selangor government has allocated almost RM13mil for its education sector to ensure the success of its initiatives.
Its deputy secretary (management) Mohamad Zahri Samingon, speaking at an event on behalf of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said the allocation is primarily for six initiatives.
“This includes RM10mil for the People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS), RM1mil each for school infrastructure improvements and Internet data, RM500,000 for parent-teacher association support, RM150,000 for electronic devices, and a contribution of RM200,000 from the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) for asnaf students.
"We receive numerous applications from schools for funding, and will prioritise them based on need, managing the allocation on a rotational basis. While the demand is high, we must adhere to our budget constraints.
“One of the key priorities outlined in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) is to advance STEM skill development initiatives, and so the state government has also allocated RM1mil for STEM-related programmes,” he said at the launch of Tekad Pendidikan #KitaSelangor: Selangor STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) exploration carnival at Shah Alam Convention Centre on Monday (Jan 29).
The carnival is a platform for sharing research findings in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among students with expectations to nurture talented students in the research field and generate world-class STEM projects.
Through this carnival, students are given the opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities in applying STEM subject skills.
The carnival, with the participation of 377 students and 103 teachers, features four competitions and 17 exhibitions and will run until Tuesday (Jan 30).
