THE legacy of social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, 77, was celebrated at an autobiography signing ceremony called “A tale of compassion and collaboration”.
It was organised by Dr Andre Ratos, son of the late Dr Leela Ratos and Datuk Antony Ratos, founders of the Leela Ratos Group of Clinics.
Lee said he chronicled his life of service in a book with the aim of inspiring the young generation to do more volunteer work.
“The purpose of my book is not to glorify myself but to share my insights on philanthropy,” he said at the event held in Kuala Lumpur.
In a heartfelt speech, Lee shared the trials and triumphs of his half-century journey from a politician in his 20s to an activist at a later age.
Among achievements he highlighted as testament to his commitment on improving Malaysian society was the establishment of non-governmental organisation Alliance for a Safe Community, of which he is chairman.
He also shared fond memories of working with Antony on various community projects.
Andre, in his speech, said Lee had a profound impact on him as a young boy.
“Pivotal role models like Lee have galvanised many people to create a more compassionate society.”
Andre expressed deep gratitude for the enduring partnership between the Ratos family and Lee, saying his parents shared the activist’s principles.
Andre and Lee unveiled poignant moments of the collaborative work, captured in framed pictures and old newspaper articles.
Lee later signed his book titled Lee Lam Thye: Recalling a Lifetime of Service for guests.
The 312-page book, launched in 2022, is available in four languages.
